More than 200 peanut butter products, including peanut paste and peanut butter-flavored chocolates, are continuously being recalled by 38 companies due to the ongoing salmonella outbreak (U.S. Health Department).

In the United States and Canada alone, almost 500 people now are affected by the salmonella outbreak in peanut butter products. The scope of this peanut butter products recall problem is continuously being reviewed and revealed, but as each day passes by, more and more consumers are getting affected by the salmonella outbreak.

Companies of peanut butter products, however, are doing its best to completely recall all affected products to decrease, if not totally prevent, the problem. In fact, Peanut Corp of America closed its Georgia production plant where the outbreak of the salmonella bacteria in peanut butter products started and issued a recall of more than 6,000 pounds of peanut butter and paste.

But while food companies are doing its responsibilities regarding this matter, we as consumers should also take part so as not to get affected. To be certain, here is the list of peanut butter products and brands to avoid until the salmonella outbreak disappears:

Midwest supermarket chain Hy-Vee Inc. of West Des Moines, Iowa,
Perry’s Ice Cream Co. of Akron, N.Y.,
South Bend Chocolate Co. in Indiana.

While the salmonella bacteria outbreak still exists in many peanut butter products in the United States, it is best that we take necessary precaution with the food that we eat.
