Bolognese Magnifico: How to Cook a Magnificent Spaghetti Bolognese
April 27th, 2009
Spaghetti Bolognese is an all-time favorite.
Children love their Bolognese quite sweet, with lots of meat with the sauce. Adults also love Bolognese, with its simple, down-to-earth sauce.

This is a version of the spaghetti Bolognese. Sautéing the ingredients makes it more flavorful than just adding them together to a boil. Sugar counteracts the sour taste of tomatoes and is good for people who want their spaghetti flavorful – not sweet, nor sour. Sugar could be adjusted for a sweeter version for children. Basil and tomatoes go well together, and should be added for maximum aroma and flavor.
Ingredients for Spaghetti Bolognese:
1 kg spaghetti noodles, cooked per package directions
1 ½ kg ground beef
½ kg ripe tomatoes
1 small onion
1 can of tomato paste
1 tablespoon of sugar
Water for diluting
Oil for sautéing
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh or dried basil
Procedures on How to Cook Spaghetti Bolognese:
- Cook spaghetti noodles per package directions. Drain, rinse in cold water, and set aside. Rinsing in cold water stops the cooking process and keeps the spaghetti al dente.
- Chop the tomatoes and onions. Heat oil in a pan and sauté them together. Cook the tomatoes until it softens.
- Add the ground beef and cook until it is brown.
- Add tomato paste to the cooked mixture. Add water according to desired texture. The use of tomato paste is encouraged, as it is a more economical choice for making sauce.
- Simmer the mixture for at least five (5) minutes. Add sugar to counteract the tart taste of the tomato paste. Add basil as it lends a wonderful flavor to the tomatoes.
- Add salt and pepper to taste. Salt is last added in order to seal the beef’s flavor.
- Serve the sauce with the noodles. Top with cheese. You could serve it with toasted bread.
